Introducing the Transit Plus Same Day Pilot program, powered by Via. Starting September 1, 2024, this program will run for 1 year OR until funding runs out.

What you need to know

  • The pilot is available for all Transit Plus riders, including those who use mobility devices. If you are not a Transit Plus rider, click here to find out how to become a Transit Plus client.
  • This service is only to be used for last-minute, unplanned health or employment rides that could not be scheduled a day in advance. This is not designed to be a backup for Transit Plus vans. If you have a ride booked on Transit Plus, you may not book the same ride on the Same Day Pilot.
  • Service details:
    • Operates 7 days a week.
    • Rides will be provided only in Milwaukee County.
    • Trip requests can be made between 7 a.m. and 5:59 p.m.
    • Book your ride in the app or call when you are ready to travel.
    • Riders should be picked up within an hour of their ride being booked.
    • The fare is $10 for each one-way trip. If you have a PCA on your Transit Plus card, your PCA rides for free. One companion is allowed for an additional $10.
    • You must show the driver your Transit Plus ID card when boarding the vehicle.

You must sign an agreement, stating you understand and will follow the purpose and limitations of the program.



 

NOTE: This is a pilot program. The parameters will be changing to optimize the service. Initial enrollment is limited. Submitting your agreement form does not guarantee immediate enrollment. Riders will be added in stages to make sure demand is not greater than available service. You will be notified by email when you can book trips.

FAQs

Where can I go with this program?

This pilot is for travel only in Milwaukee County. Operates 7 days a week. This program is only for health and employment rides that were not able to be scheduled the day before. Some examples of allowable rides include:

  • A same day ride to a doctor's office or urgent care
  • Leaving work due to an urgent need such as to pick up a sick child
  • Going to a pharmacy to pick up a same-day prescription
  • Getting called into work last minute
  • Ride home from a medical procedure or hospital discharge when you did not know timing of the ride the day before.
Who qualifies for this program?

All Transit Plus riders including those who use mobility devices.  You must sign a Service Agreement prior to use of this service. Click here to complete the online form.

What kind of program is this?

How much does a ride cost? Can a PCA ride with me?

The fare is $10 for each one-way trip. If you have a PCA on your Transit Plus card, your PCA rides for free. One companion is allowed for an additional $10. You must show the driver your Transit Plus ID card when boarding the vehicle.

How do I pay for a ride?

Debit, credit or pre-paid credit card on the Transit Plus Same Day app. To pay without a debit or credit card, purchase a voucher code at the Transit Plus office with cash (vouchers are non-refundable). The value of your voucher will be added to your Transit Plus Same Day account.  Transit Plus tickets and cash will not be accepted on the vehicle.

How do I book a ride?

Book your ride using the Transit Plus Same Day app.  If you are unable to use the app you may call 414-946-6318. If you plan to book rides over the phone, you must have a voucher credit or a debit/credit card on file. Instructions for adding credit will be in the welcome email you will get when you are approved to start riding.  Rides can be booked between 7AM and 5:59 PM. Rides are provided on demand.  Contact Via when you are ready to travel. Via will have up to one hour from the time of booking to pick you up. Riders are allowed up to eight (8), 1-way trips per month.

What else do I need to know about this program?

Rides will be shared or private based on specific trip details. Via will make this decision. This service is not to be used as a backup for Transit Plus vans. Clients are not allowed to book rides on both services at the same time. If it is determined that you are not using the service as intended, you may be removed from this pilot.
